FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Kanata • FAQ • Updated October 27, 2026

Quick answers for starting and playing. Read Server Features & Info for the full system overview, Client Features FAQ for controls and windows, or ask in Questions & Help or on Discord.

Getting Started

How do I make an account?
Use /register. Your game login and public forum name are different fields. Follow the form's current name/password requirements and keep your login details private.

How do I install the game?
Download the current client from /play, extract it into its own folder, and follow that page's current instructions for any separate updater files. Run Kanata.exe and let the updater finish before playing. Keep enough space for the client and temporary update files.

What do I need to play?
The provided client is for Windows. If you use another setup, check the installation/help guidance rather than assuming compatibility. Virtual machines are not a supported way to play.

What's a PIC?
The second password used at character selection. Set it when prompted and keep it private, like your main password.

What are the name rules?
Use the account/character creation screen's current rules. Reserved or staff names and unsupported symbols are rejected. A character rename also has its own validation, so check the confirmation before spending a coupon.

The game will not start. What should I send?
Ask in Questions & Help or Discord. Include the exact message, what happened just before it, and whether the updater finished. Do not post passwords, PICs or private account information.

Accounts & Characters

Why can't I post yet?
Log into the game once with the account. This unlocks the forum's posting features. If a shared PC causes an account restriction, contact staff instead of making extra accounts to work around it.

How many accounts can I use?
One per person, with one game client per PC. Family or roommates can play from the same internet connection on their own PCs and accounts. Ask staff if you share a PC or cannot register.

How many characters can I have?
Kanata starts with 6 slots, expandable to 15. Chaos starts with 2, with up to 6 through its own goals. A normal-world character-slot purchase does not bypass Chaos progression.

Can I change my login name?
Use Settings > Account > Change login name when eligible. The screen explains the current password, online-state and cooldown requirements. Your existing characters and items stay on the account.

I lost my password or PIC. What now?
Contact staff privately for the supported recovery process. Do not share either password in a public thread.

What happens after incorrect logins?
Repeated incorrect account details or PIC attempts can trigger account/device restrictions. Stop guessing and contact staff if you are locked out. Do not make another account or change devices to bypass the restriction.

How do I rename a character?
The DP Shop sells Character Name Change Coupon for 2,160 DP. Open @dps and choose Use Character Name Change Coupon. Read the name check before confirming.

Leveling & Equipment

What are the rates and starting level?
Kanata uses 4x EXP, 3x base drop and 4x mesos. New characters start at level 10, with tutorials skipped. The first Kanata character claims the account's one-time 10,000,000 mesos, 10,000 NX, 100 White Potions, 100 Mana Elixirs and 20 Return Scrolls - Nearest Town. Later characters start with 0 mesos. Some drop categories use separate rates; F8 and @drops show personal information.

Should I use 2x EXP?
Yes. Treat it as the normal setup for training in Kanata. It is easy to pay for with voting and makes a large difference to combat EXP. A verified daily vote's four VP covers four hours of 2x EXP, Pet Vac and Hyper Teleport Rock together. The rental does not double quest turn-in EXP and is not available in Chaos.

Should I only grind?
No. Complete useful quests as they open. The Far Side, Mushroom Castle, Kerning Square, No Gong's Teaching at 75, and later story chapters add worthwhile EXP to the hunting you are already doing. At 200, the Five Measures is a one-time progression goal, and Bellwether has story rewards and weekly hunts.

Should I train in a party?
Yes, especially on large endgame maps. Cover different platforms to keep the map cleared. Eligible active members get a 25% party EXP bonus with two, rising to 50% with six. Stay alive and contribute in the same map; standing AFK does not count. EXP is shared, so personal EXP per kill can vary. Bellwether's hunting grounds also give eligible EXP recipients their own private loot rolls.

What's the level cap?
250 for every class, including Cygnus. No quest is needed to raise it. Off the Edge of the Map's Five Measures is a one-time reward sequence designed to take a level-200 character to 205; it is not an unlimited repeatable skip.

How does job advancement work?
It happens automatically at your class's thresholds when you are ready and not busy in another activity. A branch choice appears when required. Most paths use 10/30/70/120; Evan, Cygnus and Dual Blade have their own schedules.

Do I need secondary stats to wear gear?
No. STR/DEX/INT/LUK equipment requirements do not block you. Put AP toward your class's main stat; level, class and other applicable item requirements still matter. Equipment is unisex.

Should I buy early equipment from the QP shop?
Usually start with the class-appropriate equipment you get from hunting. Maple weapons and early QP accessories are optional if they solve a particular gap. Save QP for lasting upgrades instead of buying every temporary tier. @gear shows the options for your class.

What should I save QP for?
The shop includes Superior Gollux and AbsoLab. Their QP purchases are once per account equipment slot, and all AbsoLab weapons share one slot. Current Gollux prices are 217-326 QP, AbsoLab armor 136-244, and weapons 544. Use @qp for the exact item and confirmation.

Is the scroll shop still the 60% meso shop?
No. @ss now opens the Scroll Fragment exchange and socket shop. Steady 70% costs 55 fragments, Bold 40% costs 82, Wild 30% costs 123. Northstar protection, Moonlit slot recovery and Dawnlight scrolling reset have separate uses. Read the selected item's description before upgrading.

Why did ordinary drops stop?
You generally need to be within 10 levels of an ordinary monster for its loot and mesos. Monsters 115+ keep dropping when you outlevel them. Bosses, cards, PQ progression and active quest requirements have separate rules. A monster more than ten levels above you can also be outside the ordinary drop range.

Worlds, Bosses & PQs

What's the difference between Kanata and Chaos?
Kanata has trading and the account economy. Chaos is a separate hardcore journey: fresh characters, three lives, tougher monsters, masks and Whims, with no normal trading, Cash Shop, storage or account rentals.

How do I unlock Chaos?
Finish The Far Side through its level-160 finale with Lune in Henesys. It unlocks for the whole account.

What happens when I die there?
A dangerous death costs a life and the applicable EXP penalty. The third death ends that character's run. Specific activities and explicitly safe story rooms protect lives; Dragon Rider does not. A private map is not automatically safe.

Can I bring Chaos rewards to my main?
Earn the Chaos Ledger goals there, then claim each earned account reward from Lune in Kanata on an eligible character. This is not a normal item transfer, and nothing is transferred into Chaos.

What are the weekly limits?
The usual budget is 12 entries per boss activity and 8 per PQ activity, per account and world. Dojo has 8 fresh runs weekly. Reset is Thursday at 00:00 Dutch time; some modes share their activity allowance. Boss entry cooldown is normally one minute.

How do I get to bosses?
Use @boss for current directions, requirements and entries. Entrance travel works from a town and moves only you. It does not begin the encounter or use an entry by itself. Required summoning items still matter.

Does meeting the entry level mean I can clear?
No. Entry is a door requirement, not a recommended solo-clear level. Bring the damage, supplies and group needed for the actual fight. The usual reward contribution threshold is 15% of the encounter's qualifying HP.

How does The Unnamed Toll work?
Take the Postal Worker's boat from Leafre to Bellwether and speak to Nell Wren. Normal 200+, Hard 225+, 1-6 players, 20 minutes. No story prequest is needed to fight. Eligible personal clears need 15% contribution and survival, giving 1 Normal / 3 Hard Tollheart Shards plus a separate equipment chance. Sera exchanges 20 shards for Eternal armor or 30 for a Genesis weapon; current equipment requires 225.

Is Haunted House seasonal?
No. The ordinary Haunted House training maps stay available. Halloween events are separate and end November 1.

VP, DP & NX

What can VP buy?
2x EXP, Pet Vac and Hyper Teleport Rock rentals, 1,875 NX for 0.25 VP, Normal Fashion Tickets at 0.5 VP, and character slots at 2 VP. A verified vote gives 4 VP per server day, resetting at Dutch midnight, subject to the voting site's own limits. Eligible hunting VP has a 40 VP monthly account cap.

What are Kanata Coins and DP?
Coins are rare in-game rewards and can be traded. @dps exchanges one coin for 500 DP; the exchange is one-way. DP is also available through donations and buys the same timed conveniences, NX, Special Fashion Tickets and a rename.

Does DP give a stronger version of a service?
No. VP and DP extend the same account-service timers. DP is an alternative budget, including when you already have an earned coin. NX bought with either currency can be used for cubes, so it is more useful to explain the purchases than promise a blanket "no pay-to-win" label. You can level and earn gear without donating.

How do I get NX?
The one-time account starter gift, configured boss rewards, the Chaos Jester, and VP/DP exchange. Qualifying configured boss finishers pay 3,000 NX; ordinary field bosses pay no NX. The Jester's 1,000 NX needs 30% contribution. Shops offer 1,875 NX per 0.25 VP or 5,000 NX per 756 DP.

Where do outfits and pets come from?
Town Fashion Gachapons use Normal or Special Fashion Tickets. Normal tickets can drop from eligible hunting and are sold for VP; Special tickets use their own boss/DP sources. While unseen rewards remain, pity prevents a fifth consecutive normal duplicate or third special duplicate. Check a pet's actual lifetime and features rather than assuming every pet is permanent.

Do rentals pause when I log out?
No. They start immediately and count real elapsed time. Kanata characters on the account share the remaining service time. Buying through both shops extends the same timer rather than giving an extra stacked multiplier.

Client Features & Help

Where are the controls for Sell Selected, pets, cubes and the other tools?
The Client Features FAQ covers Sell Selected, cash-item disposal, Item Guard, Pet Ignore/Auto Sell, nearby Auto Pickup, Pet Vac, Gathering Bags, Scroll Satchel, quick cubes, Nebulites, teleporting, HD/window controls, Monster Book, auto-buff, the Chaos HUD and updating. Keeping the instructions there avoids two different copies of the same controls.

What are the pet list limits?
Pet Ignore and Auto Sell support 50 entries each. These are separate lists; item restrictions still apply. See the client FAQ before adding anything valuable to Auto Sell.

What does @dispose do?
It closes a stuck conversation or window. It does not teleport you or skip a quest, boss or entry requirement.

Found a bug?
Post in Bug Reports with the steps, exact message and a screenshot or short clip if useful. Do not post private account details.

Got an idea, need help or want to appeal?
Use Suggestions, Questions & Help or Ban Appeals. You can also contact staff on Discord. Full story walkthroughs are in Guides & Tips.
